MMORPG and MMOFPS titles aren't that hard to find nowadays. There's a lot of them out, and they are gaining ground in overall popularity fast. Well, a newer developer on the block is looking to create some waves in the market by putting out a unique RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter) called Savage.
Savage looks very similar to a lot of other MMO action titles at first glance. You run through trees, plains, hills, etc. switching on the fly between third and first person perspectives ... whichever you are more comfortable with. The basic sides to choose from are pretty unique in their own way. The human side consists of various fighters that vary in strength, agility, and power ... while the beast side consists and relies more on the magic element. There is the ability to have up to 64 players online at one time, and there are unique weapons and items to select from for each side specifically. So what makes Savage different?
The main thing is a commander who signs in per team. The commander gets an RTS view rather than an FPS viewpoint and actually plays as an RTS game for the most part. He can build structures, create miners to mine gold, and can issue commands and movement orders to the other people signed in and playing in the FPS viewpoint. Giving a movement order will create a light shaft where the FPS player needs to go, and all of the RTS structures and AI players can be seen by the FPS players in real time. A neat feature with the commander is the fact that he can actually drop out of RTS mode if needed and can go to FPS style to fight in the trenches with the troops.
Honestly, I have to say that Savage was one of those quiet games that I didn't hear much about and it turned out to be one of the more impressive ones I had seen on the floor. I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed version sometime this summer.
