Xbox 360 Outsells PlayStation 3… in Japan

In an unexpected turn of events, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has benefit from a massive sales boost in one of its hardest to reach markets, Japan, managing to outsell Sony’s PlayStation 3 in the process.

Up from 3,817 the previous week, the Xbox 360 went on to sell 17,673 units, just edging out Sony’s 17,434, a drop from 18,785 units the week prior. In addition, PlayStation 2 sales also suffered, moving only 10,209 pieces of hardware.

The boost in Microsoft’s fortunes is credited to Namco-Bandai’s Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, which debuted at #2 on the charts this week.

Nintendo’s Wii, DS, and Sony’s PSP continue to be the strongest performers in the play, but their unit finally beating out the homegrown Sony machine, maybe Microsoft’s fortunes are finally ready to change.
