Treyarch Comments On COD4-like Multiplayer in World at War

Let’s face it. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has totally changed what gamers expect of an online shooter. Where we once were satisfied with shooting other dudes in the face (that totally came out wrong), we now expect rewards and a carrot on a stick to keep us coming back for more. Be it new weapons, new perks, or the pretty much useless “Prestige” mode – we want it in every single game from here on out.

Treyarch recognizes this and hasn’t strayed too far from what Infinity Ward created in COD4. Here’s what Treyarch senior producer, Noah Heller, had to say about the similarities.

“I think what [Modern Warfare’s success] did most of all is emphasise multiplayer to us,” said Heller. “In the olden days of CoD you had multiplayer and you had single-player and they never meet. CoD 4 was a multiplayer sensation so it was very important that we focused on multiplayer and that we got a chance to show our own multiplayer.

“Our multiplayer’s definitely built off CoD4 because it was an excellent platform to build off,” he continued. “We wanted to bring vehicles into play… and above and beyond that we knew that co-op was a multiplayer experience. Co-op to us is the bridge between multiplayer and single-player.”– CVG

If you check out the beta for Call of Duty: World at War and you’re a seasoned Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare player, you’ll have no problem getting kills. It is basically the exact same game with new maps but isn’t that what everyone kind of wanted?

Oh, and there’s dogs. That’s really all Treyarch had to add to make me happy.
