The Best of the Last Minute Holiday Game Deals

Well, it’s a few days until Christmas, and chances are you’ve already tracked down your ideal purchases for your friends and loved ones.  But what if you’re waiting for the last minute to pick up that special something?  What’s more, what if you’re just looking to get that spectacular game purchase for yourself to reward you for all the crap that you’ve put up with over the last 12 months?

Well, we here at GameZone have you covered with some excellent deals that are simply too good to pass up.  So grab your credit card and/or cash and hit the stores to get them now.  Like the holidays themselves, they won’t last forever…

Kinect Gunstringer/Fruit Ninja Bundle - $109.99 (Gamestop)

There’s no better time than right now to get a Kinect.  Even if you end up with one of the “weaker” bundles that’s being sold, you still get a good game with the deal.  And we’re talking Child of Eden, not Kinect Adventures (though it’s not too bad, unlike some of the other Kinect shovelware out there).

However, if there’s one ideal bundle to go with, it’s definitely the Gunstringer / Fruit Ninja bundle.  You get Kinect Adventures already included in the box, and download codes for both Twisted Pixel’s innovative shooter and the Halfbrick Studios classic.  Along with that, you get the Kinect itself, ideal for motion gaming.  The bundle runs $40 off right now, so you can score it for $109.99.

Need For Speed: The Run- $39.99-$49.99 (Best Buy, Gamestop)

Electronic Arts’ latest Need For Speed game may not be an instant classic like last year’s Most Wanted was, but The Run is still an impeccable racing experience that no player should miss out on.  Now, thanks to some ongoing sales, you can snag it for pretty cheap.  The game is being sold for anywhere between $10 to $20 off, depending which retailer you go with.  Not a bad deal when it comes to outrunning the law and shooting for a big payday across the nation.

Portal 2- $17.99 (Gamefly)

Want to snag one of the best games of the year without putting a serious clinic on your wallet? Then head over to Gamefly.com and put Portal 2 in your shopping cart.  The rental website is currently selling Valve’s highly respected sequel for a bargain price, $17.99, on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  Whether you feel like going through this challenging game on your own or calling upon a friend to join you in online co-op, it’s a hearty deal that you shouldn’t pass up.  Hell, GLADoS wouldn’t.

PlayStation 3D Display Bundle- $399.99 (Amazon, Best Buy)

Even though it’s only been out for like a month or so, two of the bigger online retailers out there are selling Sony’s 24” 3D gaming monitor for a steal.  Going for $100 less than its current price (for a limited time only), the PlayStation 3D Display packs a number of features, including a pair of optimal glasses, an HDMI cable, and a copy of one of the better 3D games out there, Motorstorm: Apocalypse.  Even though it may not come with a cable port or a modem, it’s a great piece of 3D tech for those of you that can’t afford a thousand-dollar set-up.

Rage- $29.99 (Gamestop)

Rage is one of those games that has become highly overlooked in the face of other modern first-person shooters, which is a shame.  id Software’s first-person shooter is marvelous, packed with great action and fun racing scenes.  And now you can get it for literally half the price it sold for, a paltry $29.99.  That’s a great deal for those of you who missed it the first time around – and you know who you are.

PlayStation 3 System With LittleBigPlanet 2: Special Edition and Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One- $249.99 (all retailers)

Last but not least, if you still haven’t managed to pick up a PlayStation 3 yet, there are a number of great bundles available to choose from, including a nice Uncharted 3 package and an interesting Harry Potter pack.  The best of the bunch, though, is this set-up, which comes with not only the system, a controller, and a 160 GB hard drive, but also two games.  And not just any two games, but entertaining romps featuring Sackboy, and Ratchet and Clank.  This is a great way to get introduced to the PS3 if you haven’t already.
