Soldier of Fortune Announced for Xbox 360 and PS3

In light of all the happenings behind Rockstar’s Manhunt 2, you would think now might not be the best of times to announce a sequel to one of the most violent titles ever released. Apparently not, though, because Soldier of Fortune is being brought to next-gen. Activision will be publishing and internally developing the next Soldier of Fortune title at their Minneapolis Office, Activision Value. Activision Value’s pedigree includes such budget titles as Pimp My Ride, Barbie and Cabela’s African Safari. Definitely not titles you would associate with Soldier of Fortune.

Soldier of Fortune was originally released on PC in 2000, an FPS title that will live in infamy for its realistic limb damage, allowing players to decapitate enemies’ body parts. A sequel was released in 2002, despite controversy due to the surfeit of gore of and violence.

GameStop has listed the title as Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back, to be released this November on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Activision, however, would not comment on when they plan to make an official announcement regarding the title. More is likely to be revealed at E3 in just two weeks, so stay tuned.
