Red Faction III Heads to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

An almost forgotten shooter franchise from the previous generation of consoles is looking to make a next generation comeback as reported from THQ’s investor conference calls.

Back when the first Red Faction was first released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, the series made use of what the developers called “Geo-Mod” technology, a feature which allowed for real-time destructible environments. The sequel, Red Faction II, was released one year later in October 2002. Now THQ has revealed that a third installment, which is being referred to as Red Faction III, is in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

THQ CEO Brian Farrell revealed in a conference call that the game is being created by the same developer who handled the first two games, Volition. Of course to keep in with tradition, the game will be seeing the return of Geo-Mod technology, only brought up to the next level through the power of next generation technology.

No date has been set for Red Faction III, but THQ says they are planning for a fiscal 2009 release, or in other words sometime between April 2008 and March 2009. Farrell also notes we can expect more of the game to be shown off in the coming weeks. Stayed tuned to Kombo for continuing coverage.
