PSPGo European UMD Rewards Program Detailed

During the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has attempted to answer what has been one of the most pressing questions on the PSPGo – how UMD owners will transfer over their games. Their answer is not quite a “replacement” plan so much as a rebate of some sort.

Those who buy a PSPGo while still owning any previous PSP model with UMD discs will at first be able to download three of 17 titles from the Playstation Store of their choice for free. All of the titles are games currently available on the European Playstation Store, which has the least amount of PSP content out of all the regions. No word yet on whether this deal will expand to include more titles.

For the process, users will need both a PSPGo and any of the UMD models of the PSP, so it won’t work for people who just want to re-acquire digital versions of UMD games for their PSP 1000-3000. The system will work through e-mail vouchers after users insert a UMD disc into their old PSP and download an exclusive PSPGo theme.

Users will first need to start up the PSPGo and log into Playstation Network with it, then do the same with the other PSP model with the same account. After inserting the UMD disc, the rewards prompt will appear. After downloading the exclusive PSPGo theme, and e-mail voucher will be sent through which players can freely download three of the following games:

KillZone Liberation
MediEvil
Wipeout Pure
Buzz: Brain Bender
Buzz Master Quiz
SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals: Fireteam Bravo
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Everybody’s Golf
Resistance: Retribution (one of the games not available on the US Playstation Store)
