Project Beast gameplay snippets reveal unrefined awesomeness

I just want to talk about Project Beast all day long. Is that wrong? It’s not wrong. As Goldilocks would say, it’s juuuuuuust right. Sure, we still don’t know exactly what it is. Is it a new Souls game? Demon's Souls 2? Shadow Tower 2? A new IP altogether? It’s still too early to know for sure. What we do know is that it has many Souls gameplay aspects to it. Whatever it is, it’s going to be good.

We took those WebMs floating around the internet and spliced them together for one continuous almost-trailer. These short clips are probably from an official trailer yet to be released or a trailer in progress. Regardless, that's what is playing above. We thought about adding sound to it, but I almost like the silence. After all, anything else just wouldn’t be canon.

So let’s talk about some screenshots I took from the video above:

FromSoft

This is clearly a From Software game in look and design. If that wasn’t enough for you, there's the brand name, plain and simple. From the protagonist’s clothing to the architecture, the time period looks fictional Gothic-Victorian. The mere fact that he is toting around a shotgun tells us that this isn’t some fantasy medieval period.

Bodies

Dead guys on posts? Yup. Not too much you can tell from this photo other than the art style and the foreboding building in the distance. Is this where the protagonist just came from or where he is heading? I know a dead body is a dead body – but it still looks a bit like a Hollow.

PAth

We see the protagonist running down a path here. The same fallen leaves litter the ground from the first photo – assuming that this takes place after he walked through that gate. In the distance it appears to be his objective somewhere hidden in the mountain range. Is this valley the calm before the storm?

Battle

Again, fallen leaves. This time the battle has started – no more calm. This is the clip that REALLY shows off the Souls gameplay mechanics. Though it can’t be seen in this picture, the way the character swings his right weapon, does a back step, and fires the shotgun is all Souls. It's so identical that if someone told me that this was some DLC or HD-skinned something, I would have believed them for a moment.

Fog Gate

I don’t care what you say. THIS is a goddamned fog gate. It’s a fog gate, your argument is invalid. Demon’s Souls had fog gates, Dark Souls had fog gates, and now Project Beast has fog gates. Is this a sign or just a staple from From Software? It’s a sign. It HAS to be.

Souls

Let’s take an EVEN closer look at these fog gates. Umm, awesome. Or it is creepy? Creepy awesome maybe? Let’s go with that. There are little soul/ghosts reaching out to the protagonist! I know it’s a little detail, but it’s the little (awesome) details that MAKE a game. So hyped.

Boss Fight

Lastly, the boss encounter. At least, I hope this is boss encounter. If it’s not… shit. Whatever it is, it's massive and there's a lot of room for maneuvering. That has boss fight written all over it. If all these clips truly happen in the order they were spliced together, it would put this charming fellow after the fog gate which just makes sense. I. Want. To. Fight. It.

So there's my Project Beast leaked footage commentary. Regardless of what it is, I want it. It’s going to be Sony and on the PS4. Will it be an exclusive? Most likely – still can’t be certain but it’s really looking that way. If that ends up being true, I’m going to go ahead and say system seller – that’s just me though. I can’t wait to hear more about this game.
