PixelJunk Shooter, SOCOM PSP Demos on Japan PS Store

This week’s Playstation Store update includes demos for PixelJunk Shooter and SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 – in Japan only.

Both demos are completely in English save their titles. Getting the PixelJunk Shooter Demo on an American PS3 only requires a Japanese Playstaiton Network account. Playing the SOCOM demo on an American PSP is slightly more complicated.

A PS3 with a Japanese PSN account is required for the SOCOM demo. On the Japanese store it’s listed as SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Portable – that’s just the official Japanese name for Fireteam Bravo 3. The demo must also be installed and transferred to the PSP through the Japanese account. After that however it should be playable on a PSP with a North American account.

New Resident Evil 5 content was also released with this week’s Japanese update, but it is not the content from Alternative Edition. It’s just an extra costume for protagonist Chris Redfield.

The Japanese Playstation Store get’s a lot of content before the other regions, but neither of these games is Japanese.

The Americans who comprise the Kyoto-based Q Games promised a demo for PixelJunk Shooter after the full game was released in December, but it has only happened on the Japanese and Hong Kong stores this past week. No release dates for western territories have been confirmed.

SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 – developed in Canada, will actually come out in Japan first on February 11th, then in North America on the 16th, then in Europe on the 19th. This could be due to the PSP’s rising popularity in Japan compared to other regions.
The last piece of content for a western title that showed up first on the Japanese Playstation Store was the Resistance Retribution demo.
