MTV to Recognize Videogame Music

The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards will feature the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Madonna, but will also be recognizing another genre of music altogether.

This year, MTV is honoring videogames in two categories: “Best Video Game Score” and “Best Video Game Soundtrack,” the former of which is new to this year’s show. Rewind a bit and you’ll remember Dance Dance Revolution Extreme took home the soundtrack award last year.
MTV will air the VMAs live on August 31. The nominees for both categories are listed below:

Best Video Game Score:
Dreamfall: The Longest Jounrey (Even “Magnet” Johansen)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Jeremy Soule)
Electroplankton (user-generated)
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (Tom Salta)
Hitman: Blood Money (Jesper Kyd)

Best Video Game Soundtrack:
Burnout Revenge (Electronic Arts)
Driver: Parallel Lines (Atari)
Fight Night Round 3 (Electronic Arts)
Mark Ecko’s Getting Up (Atari)
NBA 2K6 (2K Games)
