Insomniac All for a Ratchet & Clank Collection

Lately there’s been quite a bit of buzz around Sony’s sudden interest in creating anthologies of classic PlayStation franchises. The God of War Collection landed earlier this year and the Sly Collection is due to land this fall. Furthermore, Sony has expressed interest in creating more HD collections, so could Ratchet & Clank possibly fit that bill? If so, count Insomniac as fans of the idea.

The idea of a Ratchet compilation has been floating around pretty much ever since the God of War Collection was confirmed and today Insomniac tweeted that they would love to see their flagship franchise get a heaping helping of HD love. “we won’t make it, but we’d support Sony if they decided to do it!”

We all need a little more Quark in our lives
So what would such a collection look like? Well it would most likely encompass the series four PS2 outings and that’s it. Fans would likely get the original game, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked, all with a nice HD upgrade. The PS3 editions would almost surely remain as separate entities because what incentive does Sony have to put those games in the package if they can sell them separately? One thing they might consider is throwing in the downloadable Quest for Booty as an incentive for pre-orders or those who buy the game new, but the full retail PS3 releases would almost definitely remain separate.

Sony has Insomniac’s blessing and there would likely be pretty substantial consumer demand, so is there any reason not to do this? The only potential hangup we can see is the fact that since Insomniac themselves can’t handle the upgrade (the studio is busy working on its new, multiplatform IP), Sony might also decide that they don’t have the in-house staff needed to give the visuals an HD tweak. That’s a flimsy excuse though, as the amount of work needed to make the titles HD-ready would be pretty minimal.

Let’s make a deal Sony, you get us a Ratchet & Clank Collection and a Team Ico collection and we’ll buy a Move controller when it launches. Deal?
