Five head-scratching things in Destiny that need to be changed

I like Destiny, I really do. Mechanically, the gameplay feels great. Admittedly, though, there are quite a few decisions made by Bungie that have left me baffled. Like, for instance, the inability to skip a cutscene that you've already seen. This is just one example of some of head scratching decisions made by Bungie, and just one of the ones I'd like to see changed in the (hopefully near) future.

Skippable Cutscenes

It’s one thing to require players to watch a cutscene the first time they are doing a mission. But to require them to sit there and watch it a second, third, fourth, hundredth time, that’s a little much. Grinding in Destiny is annoying enough, I don’t want to have to sit there and watch a cutscene that I’ve already seen dozens of times before. It can’t be that hard to implement a skip feature.

Add Light to Uncommon (Green) Items

Why even have Uncommon items drop at level 20? Since increasing your character’s level past the standard cap (level 20) is dependent on Light, which Uncommon items currently don’t have, it makes anything not Rare or above useless. If that’s the case, Bungie might as well just have these pieces auto dismantle into the upgrade parts because odds are you won’t be equipping them. What’s the point of having all of this loot if you can only use a very small portion of it anyway? And if Uncommon items only exist to have you dismantle them, well, then just give me the parts. Make Uncommon items exciting again by adding some Light.

F*ck Random Decryptions

Engram

We all hate the Cryptarch. Hell, there’s even a Twitter account dedicated entirely to him trolling the Destiny community. I thought it was just me with the unfortunate luck, but turns out everyone is victim to the Cryptarch’s sick game. I think we can all agree it’s hard enough to actually get a Legendary Engram to drop, but to then make us go to the Cryptarch only to have him tell us it’s really a Rare is just a cruel joke. It’s not just Legendary items either; I can’t even count the number of Rares that he’s turned into Uncommons. If an item that drops is Legendary, it should be Legendary. Don’t make us play this RNG game. Or at least increase the number of Legendary Engrams that drops.

Performance-based Crucible rewards

I don’t want to brag, but it’s very rare that I finish a PvP match and I’m not atop my team in overall score. So it’s a little disheartening when I’m constantly the best person on the team and never getting rewarded as such. I get that Bungie wants to be fair to everyone, but why not at least guarantee the best player on a team gets an item and then still give out some rewards to some other random player on the team. I’m not saying the best player should always get the best reward, but at least make them feel like their performance in the match was worth something. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be an item; it can be an extra Crucible mark, or maybe some bonus reputation. The point is, there should be some more incentive to being the best player in Crucible.

More loot

I’m sure Bungie hears this plenty, but when you market a game as having tons of loot and then you have what Destiny delivers, you’re going to hear this complaint. Destiny feels stingy. When I defeat a boss that took 10-15 minutes, I want some sort of reward for my efforts. What’s the incentive for repeating a mission if you aren’t guaranteed at least one drop? It doesn’t help that the entire line of Uncommon gear becomes useless post-level 20 since none of these pieces have Light on them (see complaint above).

The good thing about Destiny is it’s build with elements of an MMO in mind. And Bungie has already shown willingness to update the game regularly. So here’s to hoping some of these problems are fixed in upcoming updates.
