DS Software Hits 100 Million in Japan

Yesterday we found out that the Sims franchise had finally sold over 100 million copies worldwide, and that was quite the accomplishment on the software front. Now, who would have thought that we would be sharing you news about another 100 million software seller today. No, this isn’t a single franchise; instead this is the total amount of software the DS has sold in Japan.

In a little over 3 years, the DS has sold over 100 million pieces of software in Japan alone. This shouldn’t surprise anyone seeing as though the DS is more popular than anime in Japan. Since launch, the DS has seen over 900 titles released with 21 crossing the million seller plateau.

No surprise here, New Super Mario Bros. is the best selling DS game in Japan with 5,174,163 copies sold. Not too bad for a 2D side-scroller. Following closely behind are Brain Age 2 (4,835,159), Animal Crossing DS (4,693,662), Brain Age (3,771,440), Mario Kart DS (3,042,753), Pokemon Diamond (3,005,505), Pokemon Pearl (2,490,564), English Training DS (2,216,322), Mario Party DS (1,706,506), and Big Brain Academy (1,654,285).

If the DS is at 100 million software pieces in Japan, I can only imagine what the worldwide figures must look like.
