Avatars Will Only Appear in E-rated Games, and You Can’t Murder Them

During Microsoft’s Gamerfest event in Seattle, Xbox Live GM Eric Kilgore told Develop Mag that the company’s upcoming Avatars will only be available in E-rated software, and that you won’t be able to kill the characters.

He explained that Avatars will only be allowed to feature in an ESRB ‘E10+ context’ – at least at first.

“We are still developing the final policies,” he said, adding that “The final guide we have this year is to think of them in an ‘E10′ context. That doesn’t mean it won’t change – but this Fall they won’t be able to blow each other’s heads off’ — Develop Mag

Not surprising at all. After all, Avatars are Microsoft’s imitation of Miis, which are very family-friendly.
