Top 25 Games to Play Before Summer Is Over (#5 - #1)
This week we have counted down some of the best games you could play during the summer, starting from #25. Today, we conclude our list with the Top 5 games you should play before the summer ends.
5) Beyond Good & Evil HD
BG&E first debuted in 2003 for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. Once underplayed and underappreciated, the game is now expanding its fanbase thanks to its recent high-definition PSN and XBLA rereleases. A long-awaited sequel is currently in development, so you’ll want to catch up with the cult hit before the second game hits shelves. What better time to do this than summer? Be sure to stop by Mammago’s Garage for some kickin’ jams.
This game is good, and we’ve got all the evidence you’ll need here.
4) Shadows of the Damned
The creators of the Mexican-flavored Shadows of the Damned have an excellent resume: their triple-team consists of Suda51 (No More Heroes, Killer7), Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil), and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill). The game, which came out late last month, is on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is highly recommended by our own writer David Sanchez. You should be able to power through the adventure in about ten hours, so it’s an easy game to check off this 25-strong list.

3) El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
The otherworldly action game from Ignition Entertainment is fast approaching its due date. Meet Enoch, an angel who descends to earth to prevent the destruction of mankind. Enoch specializes in stealing weapons, which he’ll do regularly throughout the game as unarmed players use the resources of their enemies to survive. If you think the biblical premise sounds unusual, get a load of the art design: its credit goes to Takeyasu Sawaki, who worked on the visual styles of Okami and Devil May Cry. It’s more gorgeous than anything you could possibly see on the beach. Maybe.
We cast out the wicked in our preview.
2) Infamous 2
If you’re not interested in waiting, a great action-adventure series is available for play on the PS3. Released just last month, inFamous 2 gave protagonist Cole MacGrath a new design and new powers, adding a mastery of ice and fire to his repertoire. In a summer full of superheroes, give yours a little sizzle by playing as one. Smart PS3 owners snatched up the original when it was offered for free as part of Sony’s welcome back program.

These hot months are a great time for dating, and this year, the blonde bombshell Catherine is your summer fling. Coming to PS3 and X360 on July 26, Catherine promises titillating gameplay that mixes puzzles, platforming, and survival horror into a nightmarish concoction served with a kiss. If you’d rather enjoy the casual conversations and steamy anime of the game, we recommend playing on easy mode—gamers in Japan begged publisher Atlus to lower the outrageous difficulty.
That concludes our list of Top 25 Games to Play Before Summer is Over. Now stop reading and get started playing these favorites!
