System 3 CEO Mark Cale confirmed earlier today that the classic 80s sports romp California Games, originally released by Epyx for nearly every platform in existence in 1987, but perhaps most famously on the Commodore 64, would be released by his company for download over PlayStation Network in August. California Games invites players to take part in a number of sports and activities commonly associated with California, including surfing, skateboarding, and rollerskating. Speaking with PALGN, Cale divulged that not only would the game be made available for download, but that gamers would be able to purchase it as a retail product in stores, a business model similar to what Sony is planning with its own Warhawk and SOCOM: Confrontation. Cale did not provide further details on the PS3 release of California Games, however did confirm multiplayer and unlockable versions of Summer Games 1 and 2, also released by Epyx, for the game on other platforms. System 3 acquired California Games along with other Epyx properties including Impossible Mission in 2006, and plans to make them available across a variety of platforms such as PS3, PSP, Wii, and DS. AMN will keep you updated on this and future System 3 releases.
