Xbox Website Rolling-Out New Social Features

Did you know had a "My Xbox" social networking section? Neither did I. Thankfully we weren't missing much, as the section is being replaced with an entirely new social experience for Xbox users.

People using the new social element will be able to try the new "beacons" feature before it launches with the upcoming 360 dashboard update. This feature allows players to post statuses about what games they'll be playing and when, so that others can easily find their friends for some multiplayer action. Also coming to the service will be some Zune integration, gamers able to rent and buy movies and TV shows through the website for play on their home consoles.

Overall, not the most exciting announcement, though definitely an attempt to streamline the Xbox Live experience, making it easier for users to use the service from their computer. Will you be using the new social features?
