Xbox 360 remains best-selling console for 24th straight month

For the 24th consecutive month, Microsoft's Xbox 360 held the number spot in U.S. console sales. The latest NPD Report, for December 2012, indicates the Xbox 360 sold more than 1.4 million units — more than double he amount of the second place console in the U.S.

Additionally, more than $1.27 billion was spent on Xbox 360 retail including games, consoles, and accessories in December 2012. It sure didn't hurt that seven of the top 10 console game titles were for the Xbox 360 including: Halo 4, Assassin's Creed 3, Just Dance 4, NBA 2K13, Far Cry 3, Madden NFL 13, and of course Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

The Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the top selling SKU this December, NPD reported. This is likely due to the agreement Microsoft has with Activision for the timed release of Black Ops 2 DLC. Earlier this week, Activision officially announced Revolution, the first of four DLC packs set to release for Black Ops 2 throughout the year. It will be coming exclusively to Xbox 360 on January 29th before releasing on PS3 and PC. You can find out more, including what it includes, here.

"We expect 2013 will be another big year for Xbox 360 and we’re eager to continue to expand and grow the offerings available on the platform," Microsoft said.
