Xbox 360 is better than you...and the PS3 and Wii combined
The results are in and Microsoft's Xbox 360 is the best right now - at least in terms of sales. Don't get me wrong, I loooooove the PS3 and its sexy exclusives, but it appears as if the general U.S. population prefers the Xbox 360. And if there is one thing we know, it's that America is never wrong.
According to the latest results by retail analyst firm NPD, Microsoft sold about 160,000 Xbox 360 units in the United States for the month of May. That is "more than the spend on the other two current-generation consoles combined.
Responding to the sales data, Xbox executive Aaron Greenberg claimed that Xbox 360 had about a 45% market share for the month which means this is the 15th consecutive month that Xbox 360 has taken more than 40% of the total market share.
It's not all good news for Microsoft and the Xbox 360, however.
"All hardware platforms, save the 3DS, saw a decline in unit sales versus last year," NPD analyst Anita Frazier said. "The Nintendo DS, however, did realize a 35% lift over April 2012, catalyzed by the May 20th price reduction on the DSi and DSi XL. Even with the price drop on the DS platform, 3DS sales realized an increase of 17 percent over last May."
So let's recap: sales in the video game industry continue to spiral downward; the Xbox 360 remains the best despite no exclusives; Sony's Vita is basically a failure. Did I get it all?
