XBLA Game Prices Rising According to Microsoft
For the past few years gaming has been changing significantly. Once dominated by physical copies, today gamers are starting to go digital, especially with XBLA's game collection continuing to rise in quality. The rise in quality for XBLA games have also drove prices up for these games, particularly when you factor in costs for bigger teams, engines, etc.
While talking to gameindustry.biz, Xbox Live Arcade's portfolio director Chris Charla commented on the new digital trend saying, "If you look at Live Arcade, and do the math, and look at the publicly available sales numbers, you can see that average prices on XBLA have crept up over the last few years, which has been an interesting trend because on some app markets there's been a race to zero as fast as possible."
Charla added, "We've seen a little bit of the opposite happening. I don't really know where prices are going to go - ultimately, that's set by the market - but it has been really gratifying to see that people are willing to a premium price for digital content."
Back in 2009 21 out of 86 games priced at 1200 MSP, but this year alone (remember we are only in July) we have seen 20 priced at 1200 MSP. There's no doubt that the factors mentioned above play a role in the price hike, but the question is are you willing to shell out $15 for XBLA games over the $60 games that we all have been accustomed too?
