Walmart to Begin Reporting Sales Data

Every month the gaming industry cringes in excitement for the NPD group's sales numbers. The monthly data sales have been collected from many retailers, and today another source has been added. Corporate prodigious Walmart has announced that they will begin sharing their sales data to third-party data collectors.

Walmart will now be included in several data collectors' reports such as the NPD group and Nielsen. Nielsen is one of Walmart's business providers, so the move is no surprise to many, especially since Walmart have been looking to clear up some revenue losses.

Cindy Davis, executive vice president of Walmart global customer insights, commented on the relationship in the press release saying, “This expanded relationship with Nielsen will provide Walmart and Sam’s Club with deeper insights into customer purchasing – and unmet needs – both nationally and in key local markets."

Walmart is no David in the game retail market either. For years the company has expanded its gaming department, and with satisfying pre-order incentives such as $20 gift cards, their sales numbers should make a drastic change to the monthly NPDs.
