Valve’s Gabe Newell confirms new games set in Half-Life and Portal universes

No talk of three.

Valve co-founder and president Gabe Newell allowed the internet to prod him with questions yesterday and while it was revealing, it was also quite vague. Gabe confirmed that Portal and Half-Life were still getting movies, but didn't say much more on that.

The Valve president also revealed that the Portal and Half-Life universes hadn't been abandoned entirely and that the number three wasn't allowed to be brought up.

A Redditor asked:

Any chance of a new IP that takes place in the Half-Life/Portal universe?

Gabe replied:

Yep.

Now it should be noted that the Redditor specified 'new IP' set within those worlds – which means that while we want to see Portal 3 and Half-Life 3, those likely aren't under the umbrella of 'Yep.' As if we weren't getting our hopes shot down with that, another user asked about the state of the third installments of those games and it didn't look to bright for those games.

The Redditor asked:

  1. What is the status of Half Life 3/Half Life 2 Episode 3?
  2. Is Valve still working on any fully-fledged single player games?

Gabe Replied:

  1. The number 3 must not be said.
  2.  Yes

Oh and as for how Gabe ranks Valve's single-player games like Half-Life and Portal? Well, he thinks Portal 2 is the best, "I think Portal 2 is our best single-player game."
