Valve Puts End to Half-Life 3 Rumors

Over the past month, rumors of a Half-Life 3 game have spread like wildfire over the internet.  Three separate Half-Life 3 "teasers" have led fans on a wild goose chase to uncover a hidden message from Valve that doesn't appear to be there at all.

First we had the infamous VGA's HL3 t-shirt teaser.  Then we had an unnamed “US-Based voice actor” telling OXM that lines for Half Life Episode 3 were recorded.  The final straw that caused Valve's response was a website that popped up over the Holiday weekend. went live, showing off a logo for a possible Half-Life 3 game, along with all of the trademark items of the game and its developers.  The teaser image appeared to be a placeholder and when you click on it, it took you to the Half-Life 2 website.

In a forum thread titled, "Half-Life 3 announced?", Valve's Chet Falisek put an end to all the rumors surrounding the possibility of a new Half-Life game.

Chet wrote:

"You are being trolled.

There is no ARG.

Wheatley's speech was set in Portal 2 fiction - that is all.

There has been no directive from Gabe to leak anything. That is all false.

I just want to say this so there is no confusion. This is the community trolling the community nothing more. While it is nice to see people excited about anything HL, I hate seeing people be trolled like this.

Of course, this won't stop the Half-Life 3 speculation.  Fans will continue to search for clues of a new game and sites will continue to scour the sources for any hints they can find.  Then again, Falisek's statement could be the biggest troll of all, trying to throw us all off.  Given the popularity and life these rumors have invigorated in fans, it would be stupid of Valve to not make a Half-Life 3.

For what it's worth, the black-aperture site is now completely "black" with a title that reads: "Status: Mark 7" and a meta content description that hints at "2012".
