Used games are destroying the industry, says Silicon Knights president

Denis Dyack, president of Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, X-Men: Destiny), fears that used games "cannibalize" the sales of new releases and damage the video game industry overall.

"If used games continue the way that they are ... there's not going to be an industry," he said.

According to Dyack, the ongoing revenue of new games "is very key" to financial success.

"Literally, you will get most of your sales within three months of launch, which has created this really unhealthy extreme where you have to sell it really fast and then you have to do anything else to get money," he told, hinting at the inclusion of multiplayer or the subsequent release of DLC.

What do you think? Are used games harmful or do they have benefits? Remember that access to older and more affordable games can create new fans and generate word-of-mouth about titles and the companies behind them.
