Ubisoft: ZombiU not profitable on Wii U, no plans for sequel

Fans of ZombiU on the Wii U should not expect a sequel any time soon -- if ever. That's because the gory, zombie-survival -- released as an exclusive launch title for the Wii U -- was not profitable. Despite being one of the more popular games for the Wii U at its launch, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that it was not profitable.

"Not even close," according to Games Industry. As a result, the company reportedly has no plans or desire for a sequel. Interestingly, this goes against what Ubisoft Montpellier creative director Jean-Philippe Caro said back in May when he confirmed the studio was working on a prototype for a sequel.

If there ever happens to be a sequel to ZombiU, I doubt it would be a Wii U exclusive. GI reported that ZombiU's performance as a Wii U exclusive was what convinced Ubisoft to make Rayman Legends a multiplatform game.

Ubisoft was one of the Wii U's biggest proponents, even positioning itself to be the system's lead third-party publisher. It seems Guillemot still has interested in the Wii U, but he seems a bit more skeptical moving forward.

"We must find a way to ensure the creativity of those games could have a big enough audience," he said. "We hope it will take off. At the moment, we've said 'let's do through Christmas and see where we are from there.'"

Does this spell trouble for Nintendo?
