Twisted Metal Headed to PS3 This October
Developer Eat Sleep Play has held off on announcing a release date for the upcoming Twisted Metal for PlayStation 3. While we knew it was scheduled to launch this year and figured it would be out in time for the holiday season, no one could say when the game would appear on Sony's home console. News of the game's launch came along with the world exclusive trailer for Twisted Metal, which was featured on GameTrailers TV last night.
The trailer showcased some of the game's characters, notably Sweet Tooth driver Needles Kane, Dollface, and Axel, among others. The game looks like the usual round of Twisted Metal goodness, only amplified with beautiful HD visuals. There are highly destructive environments, big explosions, and all manner of wicked projectiles.
Two things stood out about Twisted Metal in the trailer. The first was the lack of a HUD. The footage of the game I've seen up till now featured weapon icons and health bars, but the gameplay in this trailer seems to be lacking those elements. Twisted Metal will likely feature modernized methods for ammo stats and health tracking.
Additionally, toward the end of the trailer, a tall building with a sign that reads "Calypso Industries" loomed over a darkened city. It's going to be very interesting to see how Calypso is portrayed in this game. Will he be a corrupt businessman running an illegal car combat competition, offering the winners big rewards?
Expect Twisted Metal to hit PlayStation 3 consoles on October 4. I'll definitely be watching out for this one. Leave your thoughts about the trailer in the comments section below.
