The Walking Dead is 8.5 million copies strong

The Walking Dead, one of the best games of 2012, has sold more than 8.5 million copies. I don't even want to think about how many zombies that is.

Telltale Games' chief executive officer Dan Connors told The Wall Street Journal that 25 percent of those sales come from iOS purchases.

"I think we see with iOS products, we see more impact from when the show is on, when there’s stress about the show," he said. "When there’s Christmas or mass market events, that drives iOS sales too."

Across platforms, the average revenue per user is $16. Each episode costs about $5, so gamers are typically sticking around to at least Episode 3.

With 8.5 million copies sold, that means Telltale has earned over $40 million in sales, not including promotions.
