The 'idea' of The Mechromancer in Borderlands 2

Yesterday, Gearbox and 2K Games each shared their "idea" of the Mechromancer - a fifth playable class expected to release as DLC after Borderlands 2 launches.

The companies highlighted mostly what we already knew from PAX East, but it's nice to have some clarification.

"The Mechromancer will be an all-new playable character that we plan to develop after work on Borderlands 2 is finished and the game is in certification," Gearbox said yesterday.

According to publisher 2K Games, the Mechromancer will be released as an add-on to the game an estimated "60 to 90 days after Borderlands 2 comes out."

Despite the hype surrounding the new character, she exists only as "an idea and a couple of sketches" at this point.

"As with many new ideas, we don't yet know exactly how the Mechromancer will play or when she will be available," Gearbox added.

Around the time the Mechromancer releases, Gearbox plans on rolling out a compatibility update so that people who have the Mechromancer can play with those who don't.

The Mechromancer will be available as a free download to members of the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, which you can gain access to by pre-ordering Borderlands 2 from a participating retailer.  The Mechromancer will also be available as premium downloadable content for those who aren't Premiere Club members at the same time.
