After five months of cliffhangers, surprising plot twists, and immersive storytelling, Telltale Games today unveils Rise of the Pirate God, the final Tales of Monkey Island® chapter that is sure to shake the very foundation of this classic game franchise. The finale is now available at http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland.
“The Telltale team set out to evolve episodic entertainment in a bold way with Tales of Monkey Island, and we've definitely achieved that," said Dan Connors, CEO and co-founder of Telltale, Inc. "Working with the team at LucasArts, we were able to deliver a grand saga with captivating storylines and characters that have engrossed audiences from one month to the next, and we're proud of the experience we've created for new and old fans alike."
In Tales of Monkey Island, hapless pirate Guybrush Threepwood embarks on a quest to find the voodoo exfoliating artifact, La Esponja Grande, after accidentally releasing the pox of LeChuck on the Caribbean's unsuspecting population (and his wife, Elaine). Along the way, Guybrush fends off a relentless pirate hunter, matches wits with a malicious marquis, overcomes fearsome foes with sabers at sea, and is nearly digested by a giant manatee while hunting down the pox-eliminating sponge. Rise of the Pirate God picks up after the cataclysmic events from the final scenes of chapter 4, which left audiences reeling after a resurgent LeChuck deals a mortal blow to the heroic mighty pirate.
“We’re very pleased with what Telltale has done with Tales of Monkey Island," said LucasArts' President Darrell Rodriguez. "From the onset, the Telltale team utilized their impressive creative chops to take Monkey Island in new and unexpected directions, reinforcing their reputation as pioneers in episodic gaming."
Debuting in 1990 with The Secret of Monkey Island®, the classic adventure series has endured for nearly two decades with the release of four previous games on numerous platforms. Tales of Monkey Island is the series' fifth installment and the first original storyline in nearly a decade, bringing back the humor, colorful characters and challenging puzzles that made the Monkey Island franchise a hallmark in gaming.
The full Tales of Monkey Island series can be purchased for $34.95 on the Telltale website at http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland. Individual episodes can be purchased for $8.95 each. Tales of Monkey Island episodes are also available for Nintendo WiiWare, and the finale is expected to release for this platform in the coming weeks.
Members of the Tales of Monkey Island design team include Dave Grossman, one of the franchise's original designers and writers, Mike Stemmle, co-designer and director of 2001's Escape from Monkey Island, designer Mark Darin (Nick Bounty, Sam & Max), and composer Michael Land (The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2®: LeChuck’s Revenge ®), as well as an outstanding team of artists, designers and developers. Veteran voice talent, Dominic Armato and Alexandra Boyd, reprise their roles as the voices of Guybrush and Elaine.
Another key cast member joining the crew is Earl Boen, the voice of evil LeChuck. Boen, an accomplished character actor whose credits include the Terminator films and television's The Wonder Years, reprises his role as the evil pirate, whom he first voiced in The Curse of Monkey Island ®. Following a cameo near the end of the fourth chapter of Tales of Monkey Island, Boen’s LeChuck takes on a central role in the finale. Additionally, Telltale will soon release an updated version of chapter 1 featuring Boen's LeChuck, which will be available to download for new and existing customers. All of evil LeChuck's lines will be voiced by Boen on the full season collector's DVD that will be available for the cost of shipping only for those who purchased the full five episode digital season of Tales of Monkey Island through the Telltale Games website. This DVD will be available for order shortly.
