Taito Releases SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE LITE for iPhone

Full Version Also Updated with New Features

TAITO Corporation today announced the release of a free Lite version of critically-acclaimed iPhone and iPod touch game SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE. This release follows close on the heels of a substantial update to the commercial edition of the game.

First released to the App Store on July 28, 2009, SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE is a much-evolved re-imagining of classic shooting game SPACE INVADERS. While sharing characters and other core elements of the original 1978 arcade game, SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE takes the series in a startling new direction. As the title suggests, the game evolves through play, with players unlocking new elements as they construct their own unique evolutionary tree. Available free of charge, the new Lite version of the game offers a brief taste of the fun to be had in the full commercial edition of the game.

Since its initial release, SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE has received a great deal of acclaim from both the general public and critics, and more recently the game was featured in a variety of year-end best game rankings. SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE also received particularly strong support in its home country, appearing as both one of the best and top-selling games in the Japanese iTunes Rewind 2009 list.

In other SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE news, the commercial edition received a substantial update on December 28, bringing the game up to Version 2.0. Social networking functionality was added in the form of OpenFeint compatibility, allowing players to unlock in-game Achievements, upload high scores to Facebook and Twitter, and participate in global score leaderboards. Following the iPhone edition of the classic SPACE INVADERS, SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE is the second TAITO game to offer OpenFeint compatibility. The update also included 10 new game stages and “evolved” Music Stages. Allowing players to enjoy original stages with the music in their iPhone or iPod touch library, this popular feature now boasts a variety of new and exciting elements. Available via iTunes, the version 2.0 update is free to all owners of the game.

Like the commercial edition, SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE LITE also offers OpenFeint compatibility, with a leaderboard and in-game Achievements unique to the free version of the game.

TAITO will continue to release high-quality games that take full advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch’s individual characteristics.
