Syndicate Banned Down Under

EA and Starbreeze Studio’s upcoming game Syndicate has been banned in Australia.  While this game will be coming out worldwide this coming February, it will not be shipped down under.

Syndicate is an edgy and brutal sci-fi based first person shooter.  The Australian government sees this game as just TOO violent and “unsuitable for a minor to see or play.”

It seems like why not slap a higher rating on the game release it anyways.  I suppose it’s the ‘unsuitable for a minor to see’ part that steers them away from that.  While MA15+ is the highest rating in Australia, there is talk about a new R18+ rating in the mix.  This has potential to change future decisions.

Currently, Austria’s government stated, "Combatants take locational damage and can be explicitly dismembered, decapitated or bisected by the force of the gunfire. The depictions are accompanied by copious bloodspray and injuries are shown realistically and with detail. Flesh and bone are often exposed while arterial sprays of blood continue to spirt from wounds at regular intervals."

Australia has a history of banning games.  Recently the 2011 Mortal Kombat was also refused to be sold.  We’ll see if that R18+ rating changes anything.
