Super Mario Land 2, Metroid II Headed to 3DS

Let’s face it, the wave of awesome 3DS games has yet to arrive, and owners of Nintendo’s newest dual screen portable have been left to play but a few good titles. Thankfully, things are about to change, at least as far as downloadable games are concerned. Nintendo has confirmed that two classics will launch on the Virtual Console for the 3DS later this year.

The first is Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Many of you may remember that game as one of the hottest releases for the Game Boy. Super Mario Land II also saw the debut of Wario (the flatulent gentleman pictured above), who has gone on to become one of the greatest characters in the history of Nintendo.

The second game slated to land on the Virtual Console is Metroid II: The Return of Samus. When that game launched, it took the basic gameplay of the first Metroid and provided a more streamlined and enjoyable experience. Monochrome visuals aside, the game was incredibly satisfying and all kinds of awesome.

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Metroid II: The Return of Samus are scheduled to drop on the 3DS Virtual Console sometime during the fourth quarter of 2011. Watch out for them, as these are two downloads worth getting excited over. And if you missed the opportunity to play these games on the Game Boy, definitely watch out for them with the utmost of anticipation.
