Street Fighter X Tekken producer wanted exclusives for 360 version
Gamers are eagerly awaiting Street Fighter X Tekken, the upcoming crossover that will feature two of gaming's most beloved fighting franchises. The game is due out in March, but already we're starting to get some cool reveals. This past Friday, for example, we found out what the game's Achievements would be, causing completionists everywhere to get even more stoked.
Now, in a statement to Xbox 360 Achievements, Capcom has revealed some info that's sure to be a bit of a bummer to gamers who plan on getting the game on Microsoft's platform. It turns out there were hopes of including Master Chief from Halo and Marcus Fenix of Gears of War fame in the Xbox 360 version of the game. Unfortunately, things didn't go exactly as planned, as those intentions were scrapped.
The PlayStation 3 version of Street Fighter X Tekken will feature Cole McGrath from inFamous and Sony's resident felines Toro and Kuro. Meanwhile the Xbox 360 version gets nothing exclusive. "In terms of characters we wish we could have put in the game, Master Chief or Marcus Fenix from Gears of War would have been really cool, but it was just really difficult," stated Producer Yoshinori Ono.
According to Ono, Capcom was discussing the possible exclusive characters for the Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken with Microsoft, but "we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that." He went on to say that "it's something we wish could have happened. It's just too bad, basically."
It's a shame gamers who get Street Fighter X Tekken on the Xbox 360 won't get any cool characters unique to the platform. That said, it seems like it's always Master Chief or Marcus Fenix that come up when people talk about Xbox 360-exclusive characters. Man, Microsoft needs more original IPs. Just sayin'.
Personally, I can't wait to take the fight to both Street Fighter and Tekken's best with Toro and Kuro!
