Sonic 4: Episode 2 Still Alive and Kickin'
People have been wondering whether Sega would continue with the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 episodic series. After the announcement that Sonic Generations would celebrate the blue blur's old school roots, some gamers thought the publisher was calling it quits on the downloadable series it launched last year. According to Sega West CEO Mike Hayes, that's not the case.
In an interview with VG247, Hayes said that gamers can expect Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 to launch "very soon." Though he didn't state how soon, it's likely that we'll see the game land either later this year or early next year. According to Hayes, the game managed to sell very well, so Sega definitely has interest in continuing the series. "It did well and continues to do well," stated the Sega West boss. "Particularly when it gets a little shot in the arm with some promotion or price activity, sales are quite phenomenal."
Hayes went on to say that Sonic 4: Episode 1 has sold over a million units, and that it continues to sell well on the digital distribution market. Considering all the hype that went into Episode 1 and the fans' anticipation for an old school Sonic game, the high sales numbers make sense. Of course, once the game actually launched, it was received with a mixed reaction.
Sonic 4: Episode 1 launched last October on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare, and iOS. We can probably expect the sequel to hit all of those same download platforms. When that will be is still a mystery, but it's possible that Sega will make a reveal fairly soon.
