Sonic 1 Will Be Unlockable in Sonic Generations

It has been revealed that Sonic Generations will include the original Sega Genesis version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The old school favorite will be featured as an unlockable extra to remind gamers of the blue blur's roots. That's a pretty cool inclusion, especially since Sonic Generations is supposed to provide a good throwback to Sonic's retro days as well as his newer adventures.

News of the game's inclusion came courtesy of Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka. According to Destructoid, Iizuka made the announcement at Paris Games Week.

Admittedly, I'm not exactly foaming at the mouth due to this reveal. I already own a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog, and I'm certain most gamers have played the game at some point. Still, I won't deny that a free classic is still a sweet little extra.

Personally, I think I would have preferred another game--maybe Sonic 2 or Sonic 3--but that's just me. There will undoubtedly be a number of gamers who are thrilled to have the opportunity to relive their fondest memories with the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Also, it gives you an excuse to play through Star Light Zone and listen to that awesome theme music yet again.
