Sega completes acquisition of Atlus USA, will publish future games

"The change is almost entirely back-end stuff"

Sega recently finalized its acquisition of developer Atlus USA, cementing its position as publisher for the North American release of all Atlus games.

“The Atlus logo/brand aren’t going away,” Atlus USA PR Manager John Harding said on Twitter. “The change is almost entirely back-end stuff.”

As Polygon reports, Sega of America assured continued Atlus’ continued autonomy in a statement.

“No games or products will be adversely affected by the publisher unification,” the company said, adding that the unification has already aided many projects, including the localization of Yakuza and Project Diva.

“After nearly a year working under the Sega Games division both Sega of America and Atlus U.S.A have thrived and released a combined total of 23 game products,” Atlus U.S.A CEO Naoto Hiraoka said in a release. “Between Atlus’ ability to localize and release Japanese video game products efficiently and the strength of Sega of America’s reputation as a leading publisher in the industry, the situation could not be more symbiotic for both companies.”
