Saints Row: The Third Ads Target Grand Theft Auto V Hype

 - 871142

You have to feel a bit sorry for THQ who have fought to stay relevant during one of the biggest months in history of the gaming industry, which saw launches of several blockbuster games like Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 3, and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  Finally, as these games begin to release and the hype settles down, Rockstar goes and announces the fifth installment of their GTA series. Go figure.

With both games featuring similar playstyle, humor, and content there's a naturally born rivalry between Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V and Saints Row: The Third.  So you can understand why Rockstar would attempt to steal some of the hype for their competition by releasing a trailer for GTA V today.

It's appears that THQ isn't just going to bend over and take it, thought.  Instead they are taking their giant purple dildos and shoving it right back in Rockstar's face (or rump).

Taking advantage of the all the GTA V hype, THQ's new marketing campaign attempts to lure GTA fans towards their game and steal some of the spotlight of today's GTA V trailer.  When searching for terms like GTAV or Grand Theft Auto V, you might notice Google ads that read: "Forget Grand Theft Auto".  The link, of course, leads directly to the Saints Row website.

You've got to really hand it to THQ's marketing team.  The team that took on Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has really outdone themselves this time.  What better way to beat the competition than advertise when people search for them!?  Brilliant!

THQ has taken on on Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, and has embarrassed them both with parodies of their trailers.  They've taken on Gears of War 3 and introduced their own Whore mode.  As THQ has proved time and time again, they are not going out without a fight.  If BF3 and MW3 couldn't stop them, you bet GTA V sure as hell won't.  This just further emphasizes the genius behind Saints Row: The Third's marketing team.

Of course, you should still check out the Grand Theft Auto V trailer because it's awesome.
