Rumor: Xbox Kinect 2 in the Works
With virtually every retailer offering discounts on Microsoft's Xbox Kinect this year, many may be wondering the cause for it? If Eurogamer's recent report of a rumored Kinect 2 is true, they may be attempting to unload the old models before the new one arrives.
According to "sources", Micorosoft has plans to release a next-generation Kinect so accurate it can read your lips. The report also mentions that the Kinect 2 will offer improved motion sensing and voice recognition, including lip reading and detecting player emotion. It can also track your pitch and volume of your voice, as well as facial characteristics to detect different emotional states.
Despite launching in November 2010, it is said that many of thecurrent Kinect's features were scaled back during production due to USB technology incapable of transmitting the data fast enough. The USB, of course, is the way the Xbox 360 connects to the Kinect.
However, the source revealed that the Kinect 2 will not be hamstrung by the USB's weakness. "It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?" the source said to Eurogamer.
No release date was mentioned, so you may still get some years out of your current Kinect, and it still may be wise to take advantage of today's Cyber Monday sales on the Xbox Kinect.
