Robert Downey Jr. thinks Iron Man 3 could be the best of the three
While talking up his new movie, Sherlock Holmes 2, Robert Downey Jr. said some awesome things about Iron Man 3. When Omelete was interviewing him at a Sherlock Holmes 2 premier, RDJ expressed some excitement over the third installment in the Iron Man series.
He was asked what we can expect from the third Iron Man and the partnership with director Shane Black, and Robert Downey Jr. said:
“I think that we have an opportunity with the third Iron Man to make the best of the three, and maybe one of the better superhero movies that’s ever been made. But I think we have to remember what made the first one good. It was very character-driven. It was very odd. It was kind of outrageous. And so I think we have to have the courage to trust that the audience is really kind of cool, and smart.”
He hit the nail on the head. It's so awesome that Robert Downey Jr. is so honest about how different the first Iron Man was from Iron Man 2. The characters and their development is what made the first movie so great and made so many people fall in love with it. For the series to return to the true format of the first movie and move away from the explosions and action plot of the second would be amazing.
Robert Downey Jr. is right; if they do that, they have the opportunity to make Iron Man 3 the best of the three movies. Yea, I'm gonna miss Jon Favreau, but he's more Cowboys & Aliens than the direction of Iron Man 3 needs to be. Shane Black has only directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, also starring Downey Jr., but he brings years of experience to the table. He's worked on the screenplays for the Lethal Weapon movies, as well as Last Action Hero and The Last Boy Scout, so it will be interesting to see the type of humor, intelligence, action, and directions of the story and the script.
Iron Man 3 is set for a May 3, 2013 release date.
