Retro Game Challenge for the Nintendo DS Ships to Retailers across North America

XSEED Games Takes Players on an Adventure Back in Time

XSEED Games announced today that Retro Game Challenge for the Nintendo DS has shipped across North America. Retro Game Challenge is based on the original Japanese TV series, Retro Game Master, now adapted as an 80s handheld gaming adventure produced by Namco Bandai Games.

Traveling back to the 1980’s, play as a young boy forced by the evil “Game Master” Arino to test your gaming skills in a variety of retro-style videogames including shooters, racing games, platformers and an epic role-playing game. Once you are able to master every challenge presented by the evil Arino, return to the beginning to play any of the eight games in its entirety.

To toughen your quest to defeat Arino, the challenges get increasingly more difficult with each one you conquer. Not only do the in-game magazines provide cheat codes to help you warp through complicated levels, but they also offer a virtual history lesson on the videogame industry. The fake ‘80s news stories cover actual trends and milestones in the industry from the ‘80s, including the meteoric rise and fall of new game releases.

“The games are definitely infused with tons of retro appeal, but more importantly they’re fun to play on their own merits,” praised Jeff Cork, online editor for Game Informer magazine. “Even if you’re not old enough to remember blowing on carts, Retro Game Challenge is interesting and varied enough to entertain for hours.”

Other editors agree that Retro Game Challenge is an authentic trip down memory lane:

“Great game play and a goofy sense of humor make this a terrific tribute to the 8-bit experience.”
- Steve Thomason, Nintendo Power

“A must have game that oozes nostalgia for any DS owner.”
- Robert Workman, AOL GameDaily

"The developers of Retro Game Challenge didn't just accurately recreate 8-bit gaming -- they made a bunch of really good games. Requiring players to complete specific challenges is a great way to get us thinking about a game in new ways."
- Daemon Hatfield, IGN Nintendo

Retro Game Challenge was also recognized by Game Informer magazine as the February 2009 issue “Handheld Game of the Month.”

Whether it’s ‘80s nostalgia for the seasoned gamer or the chance to experience classic 8-bit game play for the first time, Retro Game Challenge has something available for everyone.

Retro Game Challenge for the Nintendo DS was produced by Namco Bandai Games and is being published by XSEED Games. The game is rated “E” for Everyone by the ESRB and carries an MSRP of $29.99.
