Retailers starting to bundle struggling PS TV with PS4

Buy a PS4 and get a PS TV for free!

Fresh off cashing that Microsoft check, I'm now lining my pockets with newly minted hundred dollar bills from GameStop and Sony.

Looking for a creative way to offload PlayStation TV units, video game retailer GameStop is bundling the compact console with Sony's PlayStation 4. This week, when you buy a PlayStation 4 ($399) and 1-year subscription to PlayStation Plus ($49.99), you'll get a PlayStation TV (valued at $79.99 when not on sale) for free. And, of course, you'll also get a free copy of The Last of Us: Remastered as that's being included with every PS4 purchase now

Rumor has it that Best Buy will also be offering this sort of bundle, but slightly cheaper. While it's yet to be confirmed, Cheap Ass Gamer claims that the Best Buy's offer will include The Last of Us: Remastered PS4 Bundle with a free PS TV. On top of that, you'll get $5 off on a 12-month PS Plus subscription when you purchase a PS4, so you're basically saving $5 compared to going the GameStop route.

Either way, if you're in the market for a console that plays select PlayStation Vita games on the big screen and Remote Play your PS4 games to a completely separate TV then this is about as good of a deal as you're going to find.

I still don't think it's as good as the Microsoft Store's current promotion (cha-ching), but it's not a bad way for retailers to push the struggling PS TV. Last we heard, the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV combined to ship just 1.4 million units between October 1 and December 31, 2014.
