Resident Evil is taking over the UK

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City - 1081336

Capcom is celebrating the release of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City by spreading the infection to cities across the UK: an experience that simulates a zombie outbreak. Sign-ups are going on now at the publisher's European website and Facebook page for the event on March 22.

On the fourth Thursday of the month, zombies will invade Europe as part of "an interactive mass-participatory game." It will feature "augmented reality zombies" accessible to players with a specific mobile app for iPhone and Android, which interested gamers can retrieve from the Resident Evil microsite and Capcom's Facebook. Select players will be invited to participate in special missions across Bristol, Manchester, and London. All zombies must be eliminated in order to regain control of the targeted areas.

A lucky group of Londoners will engage in a live hunt after a special mission briefing from operatives.

“This real-world game is the perfect opportunity to bring the horror, drama, and edge-of-the seat gaming out into the real world," said Adam Merrett, PR manager at Capcom. "Operation Raccoon City – UK Takeover promises to be one the most memorable weekend of 2012."

Digicave, whose technology can virtually capture 3D models, is engineering the augmented reality zombies for the event.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is scheduled for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 20 and PC on May 18. It newly explores the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: 3: Nemesis games from the perspectives of Umbrella Security Service members and United States Special Operations forces.
