Ratchet & Clank Collection arriving this fall

Nearly ten years have passed since Ratchet & Clank debuted on the PlayStation 2. With zeitgeist games of the PS2 era like Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper compiled into recent HD collections, it's no surprise that Insomniac Games wants to immortalize their successful series in the same way.

The inseparable Lombax and robot will relive two of their past adventures this fall on the PlayStation 3. Idol Minds, developers of a few Cool Boarders games among other titles, have remastered the original Ratchet & Clank as well as Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal—but not Ratchet: Deadlocked? GC and UYA both scored better overall with critics than the fourth game, which included Clank as more of a side character, so perhaps those details factored into the decision.

Insomniac Games tweeted, "No HD Collection has contained more than three games. We haven't forgotten about Deadlocked."

The Ratchet & Clank Collection will feature improved, HD graphics in addition to three Platinum trophies and online competitive multiplayer from Up Your Arsenal.

The developer hinted that the celebration was bigger than the game release itself: "I know it’s a little bit later than the Spring European release," CEO Ted Price said in reference to the belated fall release in the US, "but it’s because we have something very special planned for our North American fans to celebrate the 10th anniversary, and we’ll share all the details very soon."

The company later amended that the extra reward would affect players globally: "the 'very special surprise' is worldwide. Though there is a bonus for NA fans for waiting the gap out. Bad wording. Sorry."
