Project Sonic 2017, a new 3D game, gets a trailer and holiday 2017 release window

JOIN THE RESISTANCE

Sonic Mania wasn't the only new Sonic title that was announced at the Sonic 25th celebration. Project Sonic 2017 is a new 3D sonic title made by the crew that brought us Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, and people are already calling it Sonic Generations 2, thanks to the pairing of Modern and Classic Sonics.

What's really interesting, is the game seems to take place in a timeline where Robotnik (Eggman) has actually taken over, and the two hedgehogs must lead a resistance against the mad scientist. After the brief exposition, footage, and Classic Sonic reveal, fans are treated to the words “JOIN THE RESISTANCE.”

This has set twitter afire, because the most enduring piece of Sonic media, the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, takes place in a world where Robotnik rules with an iron fist, and Sonic is a member of the Freedom Fighters resistance. Has Sega finally come to realize the Archie Comics version of Sonic has been long overdue for a video game adaptation? Only time will tell, but check out the reveal trailer below and let us know your thoughts on the new PS4/XB1/NX/PC title:
