Nvidia is fixing excessive Tomb Raider crashes on PC

Gamers got their first taste of Tomb Raider yesterday, but for some PC owners, the experience was a little bitter.

For players running Nvidia's GeForce graphics cards, the game is crashing — a lot.

Nvidia wrote on its forums, "We are aware of major performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings. Unfortunately, Nvidia didn’t receive final code until this past weekend, which substantially decreased stability, image quality, and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible."

Some players have suggested one temporary solution: turn off tessellation.

Nvidia has handled many of Square Enix's PC versions in the past, and the publisher promised this one would be "extensively optimized."

Today Square Enix announced the first multiplayer maps for Tomb Raider, which will initially arrive on Xbox 360 on March 19. The company gave no release dates for the PlayStation 3 and PC versions.
