Notch protesting SOPA by taking down Minecraft and Mojang websites

After a quick debate, Notch confirmed that they will be taking down and on January 18th in protest of SOPA.

Notch was toying with the idea of making Minecraft free to play for the day as a "more fun" method of protesting SOPA.

Listening to Rock Paper Shotgun who suggested that "making Minecraft free for a day risks being misinterpreted as self-promotion", Notch decided to follow a similar approach that Red 5 Studios is taking with Firefall.

Notch officially decided, "We'll silently take down and on the 18th in protest of SOPA."

Mojang now joins Red 5 Studios and others in protest against SOPA.  Earlier today, it was reported that Red 5 CEO Mark Kern had planned to take down the Firefall beta and website for the day and also cancelled their E3 plans.
