No Man’s Sky’s story is your own, but the game’s lore will help shape it

How will you forge your place in Hello Games' infinite universe?

For all of the hype surrounding No Man's Sky, one could argue that there is just as much mystery surrounding it as well. We still don't quite know what exactly we will be doing in the moment-to-moment gameplay, but a new video discussing the game's lore might just be telling us that that's part of the point. What you do, moment-to-moment in No Man's Sky is entirely up to you.

There will be no overarching narrative that guides you. No voice in your ear telling you to collect 40 of some mineral so you can make friends with an alien race to save the universe. Nothing. Just you, your will and the knowledge that you need to make your way to the center of the universe.

In its place, Hello Games has crafted a universe with its own back story for you to carve out your own niche in. To do this, the studio brought in the talents of Dave Gibbons and James Swallow, who are known for their work on Watchmen and Star Trek, respectively.

No Man's Sky is setting itself up to be a very meaty affair. There will be multiple alien languages that the player can learn on their journey and there's a possibility that we could see the game come to PlayStation VR.

No Man's Sky releases in full on June 21, 2016 for PS4 and PC.
