Ni no Kuni Magic Book Will Be Digital in US, Not Actual Book

So there are two things that really disappoint me regarding the release of Ni no Kuni. First off, we're probably not going to get the DS version of the game here in North America. Don't get me wrong, I'm so stoked that I'm going to be able to play the PlayStation 3 version, but I still would have liked to check out the portable DS iteration.

My second dose of disappointment is actually linked to my first gripe. You see, Ni no Kuni for the DS was bundled with a nifty 352-page book filled with spells and lore, and it served as a guide on how to draw runes in the game. Because we won't be getting the DS version of Level-5 and Studio Ghibli's collaboration, we also won't be getting that awesome book.

That brings me to the latter half of my second gripe. Sure, the PlayStation 3 version of Ni no Kuni could have been bundled with the cool book, but alas, it was not meant to be. Instead, a digital version of the entire book will be included in-game.

So there you have it, folks. I guess having that 352-page book in some form is better than nothing. But I would have loved to physically flip through its pages and take a sniff of that new book smell. Oh, well.
