Next Call of Duty to Feature Space Marines?

Gamasutra is running an analysis of the future of the Call of Duty franchise, which is fitting as they (and many others) predict the next title will take place beyond the modern day setting.

"That unit hasn't talked specifically about what it's doing with the franchise," the article says. "But industry sources say Sledgehammer's Call of Duty will be set in the future and feature, for lack of a better term, space Marines, a very big step for a franchise that has historically based itself on realism."

The bad news is that Sledgehammer Games is run by two former Visceral Games staffers, and if Dead Space 2's multiplayer beta and Dante's Inferno are any indication, they're no Infinity Ward. I'd love to see a really epic FPS space opera, but I have a feeling this could be the franchise's first serious bomb since Call of Duty 3.
