New .hack Game in Development

.hack has always been a bit of a strange series to me. Though the franchise has received mixed reviews from critics, it's actually managed to sell really well. This speaks volumes of its fan base, which obviously loves the series regardless of what others say about it.

We haven't seen a .hack game in quite some time, but the series will definitely be making its return soon. Andriasang translates that a new .hack game is currently in development. This news should certainly bring a smile to longtime fans who have been hoping for yet another entry in the series to sink their teeth into.

Hiroshi Matsuyama, CEO at .hack developer CyberConnect2, discussed the game, saying that it would be something different from .hack//G.U. and .hack//Link. While those games had more of an anime style, the new title will be a bit realistic in terms of its presentation. This is certainly an interesting direction, and I look forward to seeing the game in action.

The upcoming .hack game may be related to the movie, which is due out on January 21. You can expect the game to launch shortly after in Japan and sometime later in North America. Currently, specific launch and platform details are under wraps, but you should definitely stay tuned for more info on the upcoming RPG.
